SHE has been bringing music to the Murray Mallee town of Lameroo for almost a decade – and Roz Giles never tires of seeing the smile it puts on people’s faces.
Roz is now preparing for the ninth annual Lameroo Country Music Festival (she is the event’s promoter) in the Lameroo Memorial Hall from April 27-29.
She also presents annual music festivals in Temora, NSW, and Lockington, Victoria, and says she has never tired of taking bringing music to remote areas.
“I love it. There are not enough things out there to make people happy these days and music does.”
The Lameroo event is largely aimed at seniors and is all about supporting the local area, encouraging people to enjoy music and to have a dance.
The three-day program will feature a host of entertainers and bands – local and interstate – with a focus on classic 1950s rock ‘n’ roll and all types of country music. Artists include country favourites Craig Giles, Sandie Dodd, Kinta, Grant Luhrs, Graeme Hugo, Heartland Band and Tony Martin.
The festival begins with the pre-festival dance from 7.30-10.30pm on Friday, with the main festival from 11am-10pm Saturday and the farewell breakfast and concert from 8.30-11.30am on Sunday. Tickets to the pre-festival dance are $10; Saturday $26; farewell concert $12.
All funds after costs are covered will support local charities.
Accommodation and power sources for caravanners and campers are available.
