BRITISH pop legend Elton John will retire from touring after a final world tour.
The 70 year old announced his retirement on Thursday in a press conference streamed online after a series of hints on social media.
He said he wanted to focus more on his husband David Furnish and children Elijah, 5, and Zachary, 7.
“My priorities have changed,” he said.
"In 2015, David and I sat down with a school schedule ... I don't want to miss too much of this.
"My priorities now are my children, and my husband, and my family... the time is right to say thank you to all my fans around the world, globally, and then to say goodbye."
His retirement follows a stellar career of almost 50 years, with hits including Your Song, Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
But fans can still see Elton in concert one last time. His final Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will kick off in September and will include 300 shows performed over a few years.
It follows on from his recent Once in a Lifetime tour, where the singer performed in regional areas including Mackay and Wollongong as part of the Australia leg.
