IT'S NOT just the thousands of blooms bursting with colour in Toowoomba this month.
As the Queensland town has been gearing up for the annual Carnival of Flowers - the longest running festival of its kind in Australia - a team of local embroiderers has been busy stitching away for their biennial exhibition.
The Embroiderers Guild of Queensland Toowoomba Branch show will coincide with the floral celebrations and will feature handcrafted work inspired by the town's stunning floral heritage.
"This year the Guild exhibition is timed for the Carnival of Flowers and we are expecting visitors from all over Australia," said publicity officer Helen Smith.
The Toowoomba branch of the guild next year celebrates its 40th birthday and has more than 88 members.
During the Toowoomba in Stitch exhibition, a raffle and quality handworked items will be available for sale, along with pre-loved sewing items.
The guild is also taking part in the Quilts, Stitches and Textiles Trail during the city's Spring garden celebrations.
"The Guild meets in Highfields on Thursdays and Toowoomba on Tuesdays and there is also a Saturday group which was trialed this year and is proving very successful," siad Mrs Smith.
"There are 88 guild members who range from beginner level to expert and the range of style of embroidery really covers the spectrum.
"The members are all still learning and participating in workshops to learn, or teach, different styles of embroidery stitching."
- Toowoomba in Stitch embroidery exhibition is at St Ursula's College Dining Room and Chapel, Cnr Warra and Taylor Streets, Toowoomba, 22 -23 September 22-23, 10am - 3pm.
Entry is $5 which includes tea/coffee and light refreshments.
