ANIMALS of all types - from woolly to woven - are set to make an appearance at Canberra's Portrait Gallery this weekend.
The creative creatures are part of the gallery's annual Winter Festival on Sunday August 6.
The gallery's learning facilitator Sally Dawson said there are heaps of activities visitors this year.
"The Winter Festival is always a great day out for families. This year the gallery will host special guests, the Northern Territory's Tjanpi Weavers, who will be sharing their animal-weaving techniques with visitors," said Ms Dawson.
"Visitors will also be able to watch as a kangaroo, koala and eagle emerge from ice as Glenn Smith brings his animal creations to life. There will also be plenty of opportunities to explore your artistic side, listen to live music and see a magic show."
Activities will kick-off from 10am and continue until 4pm. Visitors of all ages are sure to get their creativity sparked with this year's program of winter delights.
The Tjanpi Weavers will be teaching small groups how to weave a basket or mat and demonstrating animal weaving. You can also create your own three-dimensional woolly animal portraits inspired by the weavers' techniques.
Alternatively have a go at making your own folded origami animals and watch Down Under Ice Design's Glenn Smith as he chips away to make a kangaroo, koala and eagle emerge in a show of live ice carving.
There will also be a magic show with Norman The Magician.
All activities are first in best dressed.
