DO you remember watching Molly Meldrum and the latest music acts on a Sunday night? Well, do yourself a favour and tune into the ABC's latest series Classic Countdown.
The channel is reliving the magic of Countdown, with the new series playing tribute to the artists, songs and Molly airing 6pm Sundays (the original time slot) from September.
Unashamedly nostalgic, Classic Countdown will feature the very best music from the day across 13 episodes - one for each year the show spanned.
The original episodes from 1974-1987 have been lovingly and meticulously restored and the archives carefully searched to uncover performances not seen for decades to create the new series.
Each episode will be narrated by an artist who performs in that episode; John Paul Young, Kate Ceberano, Steve Kilbey, Richard Clapton among many others. Plus Gavid Wood will reprise his role as Countdown's announcer.
Of course, the series will include the very best of Molly - his unique interview style and his incredible access to the likes of Elton John, Tina Turner, Abba, David Bowie, Kate Bush - not to mention the giants of Aussie Rock.
Humdrum hasn't been forgotten either, plus each episode will include a selection of the songs that were performed on the show that also made it to number one each year.
ABC Music is also getting in on the action, presenting Classic Countdown, a massive four CD collection and digital album featuring the biggest and most influential hits from the original series including classic tracks from ABBA, Skyhooks, Iggy Pop, Hall & Oates, Cyndi Lauper, John Farnham plus many more.
- Classic Countdown is on 6pm Sunday nights from September 17 on ABC. The Classic Countdown CD set is available from September 15.
