A NEW puppetry work now playing at the University of WA takes audiences on the emotional journey of two young boys as they explore the world around them.
Based on the book by Shaun Tan and staged by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, Rules of Summer is described as a “total sensory interactive experience”.
Through a series of mysterious rules such as “Never step on a snail” or “Never argue with an umpire”, the bond between the boys is tested.
As each rule is broken – not always by accident – surprising consequences ensue.
Director Philip Mitchell described the work, which is in its world premiere season, as an engrossing, interactive take on a classic story of a boy’s rite of passage.
