ACTOR and musician Rory O'Donoghue has died at the age of 68.
The performer was best known for playing Thin Arthur on the 1970s cult ABC comedy series Aunty Jack.
O'Donoghue was also an accomplished musician and was responsible for the guitar solo on Kevin Johnson's single Rock and Roll I Gave You the Best Years of My Life.
The father-of-four made it his mission over the past decade to keep fit by taking part in marathons and various ironman challenges. He was also a music tutor at Abbotsleigh School in Sydney, where he was popular among staff and students.
O'Donoghue's daughter, Jessica, wrote on Facebook that her father had passed away in hospital on December 13.
"Many of you knew Rory as an incredible musician, a great athlete and a wonderful teacher," she wrote. "To us he was the most amazing and precious Dad, Grandpa, partner, son, brother, uncle and friend. We are devastated and will miss him deeply.
"Thank you for all the messages of love and support. They have been greatly appreciated."
O'Donoghue performed at the Mosman Art Gallery just last month and recently helped launch longtime collaborator Grahame Bond's book The Great Pink Hunter. The pair toured together in the mid 2000s after Aunty Jack was released on DVD.
