HOBART'S waterfront will once again become the focus of winter solstice celebrations at the Dark Mofo festival from June 10-21.
Events will include the popular Dark Mofo Winter Feast at Princes Wharf from June 15-19, and the annual nude solstice swim to greet the rising sun after the longest night at dawn on June 21.
Large-scale public artworks will be displayed at festival precincts across the city and there will be a film program and a music program ranging from electronica and drone to orchestral art-pop.
Most events are within a short stroll of the Hobart CBC or Brooke St Pier.
Highlights over recent years have included Antony and the Johnsons with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, RYoji Ikeda, David Lynch presents Chrysta Bell, Martha Wainwright and Anish Kapoor.
Macquarie Point will be home the industrial art playground "Dark Park", which will be open from 5pm nightly.
All events in the precinct are free with the exception of House of Mirrors and Labyrinth, so visitors are welcome to look at the art, feed their fears to the Ogoh-Ogoh or duck across the road and catch a show at the Black Box.
At Willow Court in New Norfolk, about 35 minutes by car from Hobart, the 72-hour performance Entry by Mirror Only will run continuously for three days from 12pm on June 9.
As the title suggests, entry is by a piece of mirror.
