A NEW festival in the Southern Highlands is gearing up to pay homage to the great Aussie institution, the pie.
Pie eaters will unite in the region from June 1-30 as more than 30 local pie-makers vie for the top spot in a great pie bake-off.
The Pie Time festival will include pie-making demonstrations, tastings, pie and beer matchings, pie-eating contests, talks and competitions.
And with the Southern Highlands having about 30 pie outlets (according to the organisers that’s more per square kilometre than anywhere else in Australia) competition is expected to be stiff.
Devotees with an appetite can eat their way around the Southern Highlands Pie Trail and can get stuck into the range of pies made in-house at bakeries, restaurants and cafes with Dine with a Pie menus.
Pie Time will culminate in Bowral with the announcement of the best pie products and the crowning of the Southern Highlands’ best professional and apprentice bakers.
