JUST when you thought cruise ships couldn’t get any grander, along comes another one to set a new standard in design.
Celebrity Cruises has delivered a first peek at Celebrity Edge, now under construction. It will have a roof-top garden, expanded staterooms, a “magic carpet” platform cantilevered from the side of the ship, and stunning suites with private plunge pools.
Designed completely in 3-D, and featuring the work of A-list global architects and designers, the 2918-passenger liner promises to set a new baseline for ships of the future.
Celebrity describes the staterooms as “revolutionary”. The new Edge Stateroom with infinite verandah turns guest quarters into a seamless space, from the door all the way to the water’s edge.
The simple touch of a button gives you open-air access to the sea, bringing the outside in and the inside out. With the touch of another button you can take complete control of your stateroom and personalise everything from lighting, shades, temperature and service, to choosing a setting to tuck you in or gently wake you up.
The ultimate sanctuary will be The Retreat, featuring a private pool on The Retreat Sundeck. Also part of this special space is The Retreat Lounge, with around-the-clock personal butler service and the Suite Class restaurant.
Another new suite class comprises six split-level Edge Villas offering stunning views from two storeys of windows, private plunge pools and direct access to The Retreat Sundeck.
Then there are two two-bedroom, two-bathroom Penthouse Suites with large soaking tubs on the verandah, dual walk-through showers, and walk-in closets.
The Rooftop Garden, tended by a resident horticulturist, will be the place to enjoy games and activities through the day. At night, it will be home to live music and the outdoor movie-and-meal pairing.
Celebrity Edge will home port in Fort Lauderdale and make her first sailing on December 16, 2018. Bookings are now open, on the website or through travel agents, for the two seven-night itineraries to the Caribbean.
