A MIX of swing, jazz and bluesy tunes is what’s in store for Devonport Jazz Festival attendees when they see Billy Whitton & the Swingin’ Hepcats.
Billy and his band – Jamie Taylor, Hadyn Murtagh and Rit Coomber – have two shows at the festival, now in its 16th year.
West Hobart-based Billy loves performing at Devonport because it is such a well-run festival.
“It’s one of the best in the state,” he said. “It’s an absolute pleasure to play there. They’re lovely people and everyone is in a positive mood.”
While Billy and the band always do their best to gets toes tapping, the festival holds a special place in their hearts.
“The people are there for the music, rather than just to be seen at the event – it’s fantastic.”
Billy Whitton & the Swingin’ Hepcats will perform on July 28 at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Best Street from 9.30pm, and the following day at The Alex Hotel in Formby Road from 7pm.
The festival runs at various venues throughout the city until July 30.
Headline acts include Monica Trapaga and the Bachelor Pad and The Idea of North.
Some events are free and others are ticketed.
