BRITAIN is the home of heritage railways and most weekends, and sometimes during the week, you will find these railways "getting up steam".
Every weekend, thousands of volunteers go to work at one of these railways and many will "steam up" their historic locos so visitors can enjoy a trip back in time.
These wonderful old machines haul passengers between villages as they have done for decades, passing through some of the country's most beautiful scenery.
The choice of heritage railways is extensive with some having a track of only a mile or two while others have large rail networks.
Steam enthusiasts will most likely want to travel on several or many, and this can prove very difficult to organise from Australia. For example, trying to find the railway's rural location, organising to be there on a day the railway is open, and then trying to find nearby accommodation.
Now you can have the entire trip organised for you through Railway Tours Worldwide and its UK Heritage Railways Tour.
The group tour travels on 19 steam railways, one tramway and visits five museums. It also travels by ferry to the Isle of Wight and by local train to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
The tour travels from Plymouth by train across Brunel's Royal Albert Saltash Bridge en route to the Cornish fishing village of Looe.
The tour starts in London on June 27 and includes coach touring and ensuite accommodation with dinner, bed and breakfast.
Numbers are restricted to 30 plus the tour guide.
