THE Bastille Festival 2017 program is so culturally rich and exciting it is bound to lead to wistful cries of “Bastille my beating heart” from lovers of food, wine art and French culture.
The festival will see the popular Circular Quay BBR Festival return with its new name Bastille Festival, the Food, Wine Art Revolution, from July 13-16.
The event will feature more than 100 performance artists, more than 100 specialty food offerings from countries including France, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Switzerland, and a great selection of beer and wines from some of France, Spain and Italy’s finest vineyards.
The festival will take place across several distinct areas.
Customs House Square and Scout Place will be transformed into the Bleu Blanc Rouge and French Emporium villages offering gourmet food, live performances, film screenings, traditional cabaret performances, homewares, and wine and champagne masterclasses.
East Circular Quay will serve as the Nordic Village, providing a comprehensive cultural celebration of Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
The Latin Village in First Fleet Park will pay homage to Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain.
More than 100 artists will wander throughout the festival for the duration, including fire twirlers, circus performers, opera singers, flamenco and salsa dancers, and magicians.
“The festival is a giant free celebration on the street, the essence of our Revo-lution, the spirit of Bastille,” said festival director Vincent Hernandez.
