IT'S not often we're encourage to "play with fire" but that's the theme for this year's Winter Reds event in the Adelaide Hills.
Adelaide Hills Wine is encouraging you to ‘fire up your winter soul’ at the event, now in it's seventh year, which will showcase the region’s best premium food, wine and local attractions from July 29 -31.
Fire dancers, wood-fired pizzas and treats, a fire pit, warming fires and a fireside feast are among the highlights along with 60 premium food and wine events, featuring 36 wineries across 31 venues all celebrating the region’s scenic views, premium food and wine, arts and culture.
The Adelaide Hills Convention Centre will showcase produce from the Adelaide Hills, while an event at Mount Lofty House will host wineries without cellar doors.
In addition to 37 general entry events, there will be a record 20 ticketed events including:
- Pinot in the Dark at Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard, where eight vintages from the same vineyard are paired with a four course South Australian meal.
- Dinner in the Board Room, an intimate dinner for eight people at O’Leary Walker Wines.
- Ngeringa Vineyards will host Paddock to Plate, a biodynamic masterclass showcasing eight Australian and international wines matched with a three course menu, sourced from Ngeringa Farm.
Participating wineries and associated venues coordinate their own events over the weekend, ranging from guided tastings and live entertainment through to special ticketed events such as long table events, degustations and guided tastings.
The Adelaide Hills is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography. It is acknowledged internationally for its distinctive premium wines, viticulture and stunning scenery.
Recently, Adelaide officially joined other internationally renowned wine capitals such as Bordeaux, San Francisco and Cape Town by becoming a member of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network.
The network is a group of major cities linked to internationally renowned wine regions: Bilbao / Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Cape Town (South Africa), Mainz / Rheinhessen (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco / Napa Valley (USA) and Valparaìso / Casablanca Valley (Chile).
