REGIONAL South Australia has been the big winner in round one of this year's Grants for Seniors Program.
A total of $70,314 has been allocated to 20 organisation across the state to help fund programs that help older people remain active in their communities.
"There is a particular focus on regional South Australia in this round as isolation can be more pronounced in areas where people tend to live further apart," said Minister for Ageing Zoe Bettison.
The grants of up to $5000 encourage active ageing and have been awarded to a diverse range of organisations including the Northern York Peninsula Art Group, the Tea Tree Gully Croquet Club, The Port Augusta Senior Citizens Club, the Magwi Development Agency, the Royal Society for the Blind of SA, the Macclesfield RSL and the Finnish Society of Adelaide.
Among equipment to be purchased is gardening, art, sports, craft and music equipment.
Round two of the Grants for Seniors Program will open in early 2016 with applications invited for projects up to $10,000.
