A QUEENSLAND for All Ages will be the theme of this year’s Queensland Seniors Week celebrations from August 19-27.
The annual event is an opportunity to recognise the contributions seniors make to their communities and families.
Hundreds of free and low-cost events will be held throughout the state. From Maroochydore to Mareeba, Barcaldine to Bowen, seniors will be treated to concerts, outings, opportunities to try something new, and to generally get out and about and have a wow of a time.
Already Brisbane City Council has a buzzing program of events featuring concerts at suburban venues.
The Brisbane Greeters Public Art Tours on August 24 will uncover hidden treasures of public art in the city’s CBD, down lanes and side streets. The free 45-minute tours will run between 10am and 3pm. Book on www.visitbrisbane.com.au/brisbane-greeters (and book for the Seniors Week Public Art Tour).
If you like a good walk, why not join the Heart Foundation’s free Roma Street Parklands Tour on August 22 from 10-11am.
The all-abilities guided walk will cover an abundance of native species and exotics. Along the way you’ll also learn some of the history of the parklands. Bookings are required and open on August 1 by phoning (07) 3403-8888.
The Australian Army Band Brisbane will perform a free concert at Kedron-Wavell Services Club from 11am-12.15pm on August 25. Book on (07) 3323-9600.
Logan City Council will stage Logan Loves Seniors Day at the Logan Entertainment Centre on August 15, with a free seniors expo and entertainment by The Beehives.
Meanwhile, further north, the Fraser Coast Has Got Talent team is looking for people ready to strut their stuff in the annual seniors’ talent quest on August 27 at Hervey Bay RSL Club.
For information and application forms, contact the Halcro Street Community Centre at Point Vernon on (07) 4194-2441.
