BRENDA Noonan, Annie Samain-Bright and Liz Wright are cyclists on a mission, preparing to pedal their way from Adelaide to Darwin to raise awareness, and funds, for Indigenous literacy.
Their 3100km Biking for Books fundraiser will see the trio average 118km a day, stopping at 24 locations, including four schools, delivering reading books to children.
"I'm a firm believer in educate, educate, educate, and I love and value books," Brenda, 64, told The Senior as she packed her bags to head off from her coastal Queensland home.
"We're all great readers; we've read to our kids and to grandchildren.
"It's an adventure with a very important purpose: to support and encourage a love of reading and improved literacy within Indigenous communities."
Support crew member Pat Williams will shadow the riders across the Red Centre, spare tyres, inner tubes, books and donation tins on hand.
The ride begins in Adelaide on August 17 with an expected arrival at Darwin's war memorial on September 17.
