AS Australia prepares to honour the fallen on Anzac Day, the Victorian RSL will be distributing more than 750,000 appeal badges across the state from April 1.
Teams of volunteers will spend many hours selling the badges within their communities to help support Australian veterans and their families.
This year sees the launch of a special badge commemorating the last great charge of the Australian Light Horse at Beersheba. It features the light horseman's distinctive embellishment - the emu feather.
"The vital funds raised through the appeal enable the RSL to fulfil its primary role in welfare, of assisting current and ex-service men and women and their families when they are in need. Welfare is multi-generational from the 95-year-old WW2 veteran and his wife to the young Afghanistan veteran, his wife and children," said RSL Victoria president Dr Robert Webster.
Badges can be purchased at RSL sub branches, Officeworks, Woolworths and from volunteer collectors during April. Donations can also be made online: www.anzacappeal.com.au
