LAST week's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Queensland was marked with the launch of phase two of a hard-hitting awareness and prevention campaign ‘There’s no excuse for elder abuse’.
From now until the end of August, you’ll see messages about the two most common forms of elder abuse—financial and emotional—promoted in shopping centres, licensed venues and medical centres, on public transport and on social media.
Queensland’s Elder Abuse Prevention Unit received 30 per cent more calls in the 12 months since the awareness campaign was first launched—that’s more than 1500 new notifications.
People concerned that an elderly person is being abused and in need of assistance can call the Elder Abuse helpline on 1300 651 192.
