AGEING experts and researchers from around the world will be in Brisbane for the International Federation on Ageing's 13th global conference from June 21-23.
The conference theme will be Disasters in an Ageing World and it will look at issues around readiness, resilience and recovery.
Topics will cover natural and man-made disasters including health emergencies as well as covering age-friendly communities, aged care, elder abuse and income protection and security.
Key topics will range from the voting power of older people to vaccination and urban design.
Sessions will cover those topics as well as diverse interestes including how to engage and enlist older people in sustainable development and disaster risk reduction, dental health, nutrition, employment, ageing GPs, older drivers and ageing and mobility in car-dependent societies.
World Health Organisation Ageing and Life Course director Dr John Beard will discuss the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities program and how Australian cities rate with the architects behind the initiative.
American Association of Retired Persons chief public policy officer Dr Debra Whitman will talk about the power of older voters and present insights from international experts into issues that will sway older votes.
University of NSW infectious diseases Professor Raina MacIntyre will address the conference on negative attitudes to adult vaccination and its importance for older people.
Okinawa Centenarian Study co-principal investigator Dr Brian Willcox will present knowledge gleaned from the study on the secrets to a long, happy life.
