Do you have an interesting doggy tale to tell about a pet you adopted from the Dog Refuge Home in Shenton Park? If so, the home would like to hear it for possible inclusion in a special commemorative book to mark its 75th anniversary this year. Since its inception an estimated 400,000 dogs and puppies have been re-homed. To commemorate this milestone people are being asked to take a trip down memory lane and share their stories of the dogs adopted from the home. President Karen Rhodes said the refuge’s anniversary was a time for dog lovers throughout the State to remember and celebrate the much-loved four-legged friends who were, and continue to be, part of their family, whether as children, teenagers, adults or seniors. “We’re putting a call out to the West Australian community to put pen to paper and write in with their stories and memories of their Shenton Park rescue dog,” Karen said. “We want to hear about how our rescue dogs have touched the lives of their West Australian owners, and we want people to tell us the funny stories, together with the sad ones, the touching tales and the antics that their four-legged friends got up to after leaving our kennels.” Stories will be reviewed and collated into a book, which will go on sale at the end of the year to raise much-needed funds for the home’s work. The refuge remains a charitable, not-for-profit organisation. It receives no government funding and relies solely on donations from dog lovers to fund its work. People who would like to submit stories can do so by sending an email to the project’s volunteer co-ordinator Ruth Gourley at ruth@shinecommunications.com.au or by writing to Karen Rhodes, president of The Dogs’ Refuge Home, 35 Lemnos St, Shenton Park 6008. Include your contact details and, wherever possible, a photo of the dog. Submissions should be received before the end of July. The home has a pro-life policy and does not euthanase any healthy, re-homable animal in its care. It is proudly supported by City Farmers. Dogs’ Refuge Home, phone 9381-8166.
