A new strategy has been implemented to address the serious skills shortage within Western Australia’s aged care system.

The Aged and Community Services of WA online jobs portal has been developed by the peak aged care body in response to the unique challenges faced by the industry in this State.

Chief executive officer Stephen Kobelke said the portal offered a mechanism for sourcing skilled employees from across Australia and internationally.

The site also provides potential candidates with detailed information about the lifestyle in WA, visa requirements, and sponsorship and traineeships.

“WA’s aged care sector has a unique set of challenges when it comes to attracting skilled staff,” Mr Kobelke said.

“We’re experiencing a major shortage of potential employees in the State as a whole – and particularly in aged care – and on top of that the vastness of our State means that attracting workers to remote areas is even more challenging.

“As a result ACSWA has been focusing on ways to assist its members to attract employees into what is an extremely rewarding, worthwhile and meaningful career path, which includes enormous opportunity for individual growth and career progression.

“We are very pleased with the end result and we think the portal will be an extremely valuable recruitment tool for the sector as a whole.”

Launched by Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier, the portal also offers potential candidates a simple method of applying for roles, learning more about the sector and gaining an insight into professional development and training opportunities.

If there is a shortage of skilled workers in the aged care system, you don't need a degree to know why. Pay decently these hard workers and all the jobs will be filled. Would these three gentlemen in the picture like to be paid $16.00 an hour?
