SOUTH Australia’s festival for older people, now in its 50th year, is taking on a new name and new look this year.
The event was originally launched as Seniors Week in 1967, and later became the Every Generation Festival.
This year’s celebration, ZestFest, co-ordinated by Council on the Ageing (COTA) SA, will offer a curated program as well as more than 250 “fringe” events across the state from October 7-27.
The new name aims to communicate the three program streams of celebrate, connect and challenge.
“ZestFest is an opportunity to embrace and own modern ageing, while helping to challenge the stereotypes that limit our thinking about growing older,” said COTA SA chief executive Jane Mussared.
The festival will be driven by event co-ordinator and long-time arts manager Jayne Boase.
Community organisations, councils, companies and individuals will be able to apply to host an event. The activity or offering should celebrate modern ageing or explore issues, new ideas and further thinking about ageing.
The Positive Ageing Awards will bring the festival to a close.
The awards recognise and celebrate the many individuals and groups that contribute to the health and wellbeing of older South Australians.
