CHOOSING where to live is now being made easier for retirees in Western Australia.
A new retirement living guide has been launched by the Property Council. The directory of retirement villages and land lease communities across the state provides a starting point for people thinking about their housing options later in life.
"There are currently more than 200 retirement villages and land lease communities across WA. For those about to embark on retirement planning, by entering seniors accommodation, the decision of where to live can be a complex and frustrating one," Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.
He said the directory will make finding suitable accommodation "quicker, easier, and more convenient for seniors and their families".
By 2025, it is predicted there will be around 5.1 million Australians over 65.
"Today's retirement living industry has transformed in recent years to meet the needs and wants of the next generation of retirees," said Mr Iacomella.
"It is a modern industry that can offer residents a resort lifestyle including, swimming pools, spas and gyms while also offering care facilities to allow residents to age in place. The range of housing options and services available also provides for a diverse mix of needs, offering everything from facilities to entertain the extended family to boutique shopping and dining experiences.
The directory is available to download from the Property Council's Retirement Living website.
"For many, retirement although marking the end of working life, means the start of a new phase when seniors can begin to embrace a more social and active lifestyle, taking up new pass times with a reinvigorated focus on health and wellbeing," said Mr Iacomella.
"This directory will make that transition a smoother and less stressful process for WA seniors and their families."
