There are so many gadgets and assistive technology devices available these days it’s difficult to know what’s best for you.
The ATSA Independent Living Expo is the perfect place to discover what’s available, how it works and where to get it.
Organised by ATSA, Assistive Technology Suppliers Australasia, this year’s expo will be held at Melbourne Showground on May 18-19.
It will include a record number of exhibitors – more than 120 assistive technology suppliers, disability service providers and aged care specialists.
The expo brings together local and international experts covering a wide range of specialties. There will be something for everyone, with areas covered including motor vehicle modifications, continence issues, accessible travel, sexuality, mobility, smart home designs, patient handling, pressure care, insurance, and ageing in place.
Last year’s expos in Melbourne and Sydney attracted record attendances of allied health practitioners, seniors, people with disabilities, their families and carers – all keen to see what was on display.
A free clinical education program featuring speakers from Australia, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand and the UK, will run alongside the expo.
There will also be information sessions for people with a disability, their families and seniors. Visitors can use tram or bus to travel to the expo, as well as an option this year for free wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus.
If you intend to drive to the expo you must pre-register on the website to qualify for free onsite parking, which avoids the need to queue on arrival.
