A VETERAN bowler said he's humbled after a new $1.3 million bowling green was named after him.
Salisbury Bowling Club has dedicated its new undercover green to Harwin resident Colin Pfitzner, its longest-serving member.
The 90-year-old joined the club in 1951 aged 25 and played in division 1 for 20 years.
He became a life member in 1981 and served as secretary for two terms of two years, president for two years and greens manager for 15 years.
Colin said he was honoured to have the facilities named after him.
"I'm not an attention-seeker and I like to keep in the background, and it's such an impressive structure," he said.
Colin lives at Retire Australia's Harwin Retirement Village, which has sponsored the club for the past five years.
He has many fond memories of his time at Salisbury Bowls Club, with one in particular standing out. "I once beat Frank Soars, NSW state champion, in the Australian Singles Championships."
Club president Geoff Ambler said it was Colin who talked him into taking up his current position.
"I have always looked to Colin as the father of the club," Geoff said.
"He's a great example of a dedicated club member."
