You may have heard coconut oil is a superfood in the kitchen, but did you know the product is also useful for the other rooms in the house?
Author of Going Coconuts Brynley King uses coconut oil to help her tackle everyday household chores in an all natural, environmentally friendly approach to cleaning.
Undiluted coconut oil can be used as a stain remover for ink and crayon on most household furniture. When it's mixed with baking soda it can be used to lift stains out of carpet.
If your leather is looking a little dull, try rubbing a small amount of oil to moisturise the leather. If your bronze items need a polish, a gentle rub with oil can help bring back their true colour. Or if you need to polish up your wooden furniture, try a mixture of oil and lemon juice. Just make sure you use on a small patch to test first!
Have the grandkids dropped their chewing gum? Try rubbing in a little oil and wiping off after letting it sit.
The humble oil can also be used to tackle the soap scum in the shower. Just mix it up some white vinegar and apply to a clean cloth. To make your kitchen sink sparkle and prevent water marks smear some oil around it with a clean cloth.
Use it in the kitchen to season pots and pans, prevent stains and food residue on plastic containers, and sanitise a wooden chopping board.
It can also be used outside to remove rust, clean the barbecue and to lubricate squeaky hinges.
And if you need to clean your hands after all this work, oil mixed with baking soda is a great hand degreaser!
