AN AUSTRALIAN website that supports stroke survivors after they leave hospital has won a major national award.
The Stroke Foundation's enableme website is a world-first digital resource that brings together information, advice, goal setting and a chance to connect with other stroke survivors.
It was crowned the best healthcare website by the Digital Industry Association of Australia at the recent AMY Awards, which celebrate digital brilliance.
Stroke Foundation chief executive Sharon McGowan said the awards not only recognised the innovation of enableme but also the enormous impact it was having in helping stroke survivors.
"We know that leaving the hospital after stroke can be incredibly daunting for stroke survivors and their families if they don't have the right support," Ms McGowan said.
"There are currently more than 450,000 stroke survivors living in this country and sadly many do not have access to the services, support and information they need to ensure quality of life post stroke.
"enableme makes the transition home easier with information, guidance and community support available at the click of a mouse."
So far more than 110,000 people have visited the website including stroke survivors, health professionals, carers and family members.
Ms McGowan said the site,whichwas developed with help and feedback from stroke survivors, was about empowering stroke victims to direct their own recovery.
