STRESSED out? Skip the wine and wash the glass instead.
New research from Florida State University in the United States shows washing the dirty dishes in your kitchen sink is a great form of relaxation.
But there's a catch: it needs to be done mindfully.
Mindfulness is a meditative practice of focusing attention on the thoughts and emotions of the present moment.
The study found those participants who focused on the smell of the soap and the feel of the dishes reported a decrease in nervousness by 27 per cent and an increase in mental inspiration by 25 per cent.
The control group experienced no benefits.
Study co-author Adam Hanley has a strong interest in mindfulness.
"I was particularly interested in how the mundane activities in life could be used to promote a mindful state, and thus increase overall sense of well-being," he said.
Now it's just a matter of convincing hubby just how good washing up can be!
