OLDER residents in the south-east regional township of Lowood have an added incentive to get out and active in their local park: a 10-piece outdoor gym that’s free to use.
The realSpace outdoor gym on Peace Street includes a hand bike, cross trainer, leg press, bench for weights and leg lifts, and assisted pull-up for a whole-body workout.
Somerset region mayor Graeme Lehmann said the park gym, installed with funding support from Bendigo Bank and Real Insurance, underscored the council’s active, healthy lifestyles program, making exercise and physical wellbeing a possibility for all.
Real Insurance’s Tatiana Day hoped the realSpace park gym, its third in Queensland, would provide a social hub for locals.
Lowood Slimmers Club president Bev Lynch, 71, believes the free outdoor gym will enliven the town.
“This is an amazing thing for health-conscious people who don’t want to spend a fortune on gym memberships,” she said.
