ART lovers are flocking to Sculpture in the Vineyards in NSW’s Lower Hunter Valley There are more than100 sculptures by 80 Australian and international artists set throughout five boutique vineyards of the Lower Hunter, along the Wollombi Valley Wine Trail.
The free-to-the-public exhibition is a great excuse to explore the road less travelled, on the doorstep of Sydney. Visitors can take the scenic Tourist Drive 33 to the Hunter Valley, through mountain ranges, orchards and vineyards, arriving into Wollombi in around an hour and a half. The gateway to the Hunter, Wollombi is not only producing some great wines in gorgeous surrounds, but the historic village has hip cafes, shops and great outdoor activities including visits to the area's Aboriginal dreamtime sites.
You have until December 4 to visit the popular festival of art and wine, now in its 14th year.
With glass of wine in hand, you can join guided tours, artist talks and degustation tours. In partnership with the local Aboriginal community, you can also take a twilight tour to view the rock carvings at Mt Yengo and watch the sunset over one of the most significant ceremonial locations for Aboriginal people in NSW, while enjoying local premium wines from the Wollombi area and antipasto platters.
