THE Adelaide Hills will come alive with the sound of music when a host of international and Australian classical virtuosos head to SA from next month.
Finnish pianist Paavali Jumpannen will perform works by Sibelius, Beethoven and Debussy at the Ukaria Cultural Centre at Mount Barker, in the first of Recitals Australia’s Virtuosi Series 5 concerts.
Later in the year, the program sees a variety of concerts featuring Australian soprano Emma Matthews with mezzo-soprano Jacqueline Dark and pianist Tahu Matheson, and one pairing Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey with pianist Caroline Almonte.
Other recitals will see principal Adelaide Symphony Orchestra oboist Celia Craig perform alongside organist Josh van Konkelenberg, and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra concert master Natsuko Yoshimoto share the stage with pianist Konstantin Shamray.
In its 38th year, Recitals Australia is renowned for its annual concert series, which features international and Australian artists in intimate performance spaces.
The concerts include an opportunity to chat with the artists in a Q and A session hosted by former ABC Classic FM host Julia Lester.
Recitals Australia is a not-for-profit, voluntary-run organisation that devotes itself to the promotion of accessible concerts and providing performance opportunities and mentoring for younger and emerging artists.
It also supports artists through its awards, grant and prizes program, including the Peter Schodde Memorial Piano Scholarship – South Australia’s most significant piano prize.
Seniors Card holders receive a free program on presentation of their card at the box office.
