KYNETON’S halls, cafes, pubs and streets will vibrate with song and harmony from May 5-7.
The 2017 Vocal Ranges Festival builds on the success of last year’s inaugural festival, with a program of live performances, workshops, storytelling and singalongs.
“From kids to seniors, and beginners to seasoned singers, we aim to bring people together to experience the joy of singing across a broad range of genres including folk, spiritual music and contemporary pop,” said festival director Polly Christie, who also leads the Pollyphonics Choir.
The opening concert in KynetonTown Hall will feature The Mae Trio, a young contemporary folk group from Melbourne, supported by the Pollyphonics Choir. The evening will end with an Australian folk singalong session led by Jane Thompson and James Rigby.
Saturday’s program will include workshops with The Mae Trio, vocal gymnast Mal Webb and storyteller Kate Lawrence. James Rigby will lead the Chunky Songs workshop, Jane Thomson will teach Australian songs, and community choirs will perform in various venues.
The day will end with a concert in the Bluestone Theatre featuring Mal Webb and Kylie Morrigan, followed by a pub-style singalong.
Sunday will offer the opportunity to join a massed choir with Aria Award winner Kavisha Mazzella, conducted by Polly Christie and Joseph Bromley, in KynetonTown Hall.
