NICOLE Kidman's new film Lion will launch the 2017 season of St George OpenAir Cinema on January 7.
Kidman joins Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and David Wenham (Paper Planes) in the film based on the true story of Saroo Brierley.
At age five, Saroo became separated from his older brother and wound up thousands of kilometres from home in Kolkata before being adopted by an Australian couple.
Years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his determination and Google Earth, he set out to find his lost family and home.
The St George OpenAir Cinema runs until February 17 at Mrs Macquaries Point, Sydney.
This year's program features some of the best summer releases including Jackie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Allied.
