MUSIC legends Kylie Minogue, Molly Meldrum and Archie Roach are behind a new Australian music hall of fame.
The Arts Centre Melbourne will house the hall of fame in a new space called the Australian Music Vault and is due to open in November 2017.
Ms Minogue, Mr Meldrum and Mr Roach are joining music industry legend Michael Gudinksi as patrons of the long-awaited attraction.
Speaking at the launch of the attraction, Mr Meldrum paid tribute to his mum and grandmother for nurturing his love of music.
Mr Gudinski, the founder of Mushroom Group and Frontier Touring, said the hall of fame had been a passion of his for many years.
"I'm so proud that the Australian Music Vault will be housed in Australia's undisputed music capital," he said.
Victoria's State Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley said the vault would be kick-started with $10 million from the Government's Music Works program.
"Melbourne is one of the great music cities of the world. The industry has been calling for a hall of fame for many years and we're proud to be working with the industry to make it a reality," said Mr Foley.
He said the vault would be a place for music lovers, tourists and artists.
"It will celebrate the history of Australian music and be a place for the music legends of tomorrow."
Arts Centre Melbourne chief executive Claire Spencer said music was a "quintessential" part of the Melbourne experience.
"We can't wait to unlock the stories of Australian music by giving life to the Australian Music Vault," Ms Spencer said.
The vault will include items donated by Ms Minogue, Mr Meldrum and Mr Gudinksi as well as exhibits from the Arts Centre's entertainment collection.
